Housing
The residential construction boom begun in Anaheim in the late 90s has slowed somewhat: in 1998 and 1999, more than four hundred permits for new single-family residential construction were issued each year, but in 2004, only 86 such permits were issued. The average construction cost per project was just over $175,000 in 1996, peaked in 2000 at just short of $250,000, and had fallen to about $210,000 by 2004. According to the 2000 census, recorded near the peak of the boom, the median value of homes in Anaheim was $213,800, and the median household income was $47,122. With a median age of 30.1 years, Anaheim is a notably young city, though residents tend towards home ownership rather than rental. Homes in Anaheim are, statistically, much newer than the state average.
